Ambassador Hooks Receives a Delegation of Yatsékoi
On February 13, a 15-member delegation from the village of Yatsékoi called on Ambassador Aubrey Hooks at the American Embassy in Abidjan. The delegation, which was led by Nana Affo Yapo, the traditional chief of the area – located in the district of Yopougon, north Abidjan – came to the Embassy to present their good wishes to Ambassador Hooks.
The delegation used the occasion to speak to the American diplomat about their desire to continue developing their community. Ambassador Hooks, who took note of their ideas and requests, briefly presented the chancery to the visitors. The delegation was then taken through presentations on the embassy's Information Resource Center, on how to study in the United States and on the Ambassador’s Self-Help Fund.
This last program is designed to improve basic economic, social, and environmental conditions at the community level by encouraging grassroots, community-based initiatives. Nana Affo Yapo and his courtiers also watched a PowerPoint presentation on the embassy's website. They also took a tour of the Embassy.
