Ambassador Opens Conversation with Populations of Odienné

In a first of its kind, American-style town hall meeting, Ambassador Aubrey Hooks spoke directly and extensively with hundreds of residents of Odienné. The representatives of Dozo community told the Ambassador that his visit represented a tremendous sign of hope for the region. The meeting also addressed possibility for holding partnerships in the health, cultural, and business sectors.

The Ambassador is leading a large American delegation through New Forces-held regions of Côte d’Ivoire during a week-long trip. “I’ve been incredibly touched by the warm reception I’ve received in Odienné and Touba,” declared Ambassador Hooks. “I’ve come away from these meetings with a strong faith that together we will be able to build a brighter tomorrow for the people of the northern west.”

The trip has drawn huge crowds at each stop. Thousands of people poured out onto the streets to welcome the Ambassador to Odienné. The Ambassador held meetings with New Forces leaders, local officials, traditional chiefs, religious leaders, and humanitarian organizations. The American delegation also visited a local factory and a cantonment site.
