18 Ivoirian Communities to Receive Grants from Ambassador Hooks
At the American Embassy, on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 9:30AM, Ambassador Aubrey Hooks will announce that eighteen Ivoirian villages have been selected to be the beneficiaries of development grants offered by the Embassy. The grants, which come through the Ambassador’s Self-Help Fund, are given annually to support projects that generate needed revues for community associations, schools, and non-governmental organizations across Cote d’Ivoire. The objective of the Ambassador’s Self-Help Fund Program is to improve basic economic, social, and environmental conditions at the community level by encouraging grassroots, community-based initiatives.
“While the American Embassy is engaged in large-scale projects in Cote d’Ivoire, such as the 85 billion CFA American Emergency Plan, we believe that it is also important to reach out to small villages and local organizations that are trying to help improve lives in their communities,” said Brett Bruen, Spokesman for the United States Embassy in Cote d’Ivoire.
