Black History Month Ends with a Two-Hour Musical Show
On March 2, friends of the embassy joined Ambassador Aubrey Hooks as the US Embassy in Cote d’Ivoire organized a two-hour concert to round off this year’s celebration of Black History Month.
Renowned Ivoirian artists, including Antoinette Konan, DJ Rodrigue, Legen Quauphy, and two musical assembles – Les Djiz and Les Maîtres de l’Ile Boulay – performed during the well-attended concert that brought together Ivorian officials, members of the diplomatic corps, renowned artists, and cultural figures.
This concert was one of a series of activities initiated by the American Embassy to mark Black History Month. An art show dubbed “From Slavery to Freedom,” was created in partnership with the Federation of Artists and Artisans of Cote d’Ivoire (FEDARTCI), an NGO whose goals include the promotion of Ivorian art, training for Ivorian artists, and developing commercial markets and professional relations with other countries.
During the month-long event, a variety of artwork, including textiles, pottery, leather products, sculptures, and paintings from renowned artists are on display.
