American Embassy to Give Blood for Ivoirians
American and Ivoirian employees of the United States Embassy in Abidjan will line up to donate their blood to the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) on Friday, March 17 at 9AM at the Embassy in Riviera. The blood drive will contribute to the national blood center’s supplies for Ivoirians. The Embassy’s Health Unit, which planned the event with CNTS, hopes the event will also help to encourage greater participation in blood drives that take place throughout Cote d’Ivoire.
“Donating blood gives others a chance to live. This collaboration between the Embassy and CNTS will strengthen our partnership and provide needed blood supplies for hundreds of Ivoirians,” said the Embassy’s Medical Officer Marty Surface.
The United States is strongly committed to ensuring that safe and reliable blood supplies are available to all Ivoirians. The United States, through the American Emergency Plan is giving over $7 billion CFA to improve blood services in Cote d’Ivoire over the next five years. Thanks to this unprecedented American support, CNTS recently received new state of the art medical facilities to test and store blood supplies.
Members of the media wishing to attend this event should contact Ms. Amoin Kouadio at +22 49 44 78 before 12PM on Thursday, March 16, 2006.
