Conference on Women and Discrimination Organized By Tiassalé American Corner
In support of Women’s History Month, the American Corner in Tiassalé organized a conference March 16 on “Eliminating Discrimination Against Women.” The conference brought together nearly 50 local NGO leaders, community activists, and American Corner patrons.
Ms. Fofana Kaba, a technical adviser from the Ministry of Family and Social Affairs, was the featured program speaker. She discussed and explained in some detail the Ivoirian government’s draft legislation intended to curb or eliminate discrimination against Ivorian women.
A lively group discussion/ Q&A session followed Ms. Kaba’s presentation. The general group consensus was that the aims and objectives of the government’s proposal are good, and it is up to Ivorian women political leaders and community organizers to rally public support for its passage into law.
