Volunteer Counseling and Testing (VCT)
PSI/Cote d'Ivoire launched a voluntary counseling and testing center (VCT) called the Centre l'Eveil in 2004. Thanks to its easily accessible location, and the anonymity afforded by being in a shared building, the center quickly reached capacity, and receives over 550 clients per month. It is the most frequented VCT center in the country, and serves as a model clinic. PSI/Cote d'Ivoire is a key partner of the Ministry of Health in counseling and testing. During 2005, PSI reinforced no less than 30 public sector counselors. TB screening and testing in couples have been integrated into the Centre L’Eveil routine’s activities. People testing positive are immediately given psychosocial support by specialized members of PLWHA NGOs that collaborate with PSI. They also help with ARV adherence for people under treatment.
