Deputy Chief of Mission Julia Stanley

The Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) is the second in charge at the Embassy and acts as the Chargé d'Affaires, a. i. in the absence of the Ambassador.

Julia Stanley, a member of the Senior Foreign Service, began her work as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in September 2009. 

Ms. Stanley's previous postings include her work as Consul General, U.S. Embassy Seoul; Deputy Consul General, U.S. Embassy Paris and Consul General at the U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince, Haiti.  Ms. Stanley has also served in Sana’a, Yemen; London, UK; Rabat, Morocco and Kingston, Jamaica.  Her assignments in Washington have included work as an Afghanistan analyst and as the Jordan desk officer and the Saudi Arabia desk officer in the Near Eastern Affairs Bureau at the Department of State.  In addition, Ms. Stanley earned a Master of Science in National Security Strategy at the National Defense University's National War College at Fort McNair in June 2002.

Ms. Stanley studied English literature and history of art at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1975.  She was awarded a juris doctor degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 1979.  Her languages are French and Arabic.     

Ms. Stanley is married to Mr. Saïd Rida.  She enjoys reading, traveling and current events.
