American Embassy Hosts Art Exposition entitled “Convergences”
The fourth art exhibition of the American Embassy opened on December 7. Dubbed “Convergence”, the month-long exposition, which was launched by Ambassador Aubrey Hooks, was to mark “The Ambassador’s Art in the Atrium Program.” American diplomats, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and renown artists were present at the ceremony.
The exhibitors include two eminent Ivoirian artists: Augustin Kassi and Christophe Dadié. Mr. Kassi is known for his paintings featuring fat and beautiful women, while Mr. Dadié is a versatile artist specialist in ceramic, sculpture, and painting art works.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Hooks said: “This exposition represents different kinds of ‘convergences’ – different ways in which Ivoirian peoples come together.” He noted that, “M. Dadié and M. Kassi represent two generations of artists expressing their perspectives on the world around them. M. Kassi’s students represent a third generation of artists who are also sharing their perceptions through their works. Nevertheless, their different styles come together in this hall to create a harmonious, colorful, vibrant exposition.” “This exposition also expresses hope for entire peoples coming together,” indicates Ambassador Hooks, “Because arts contribute to mutual understanding and reinforce Ivorian unity.”
