ABOUT THE EMBASSY
Facts about the New Embassy Compound (NEC)Key Dates- NEC site dedicated by Ambassador Render on January 19, 2002
- First concrete pour November 11, 2002
- Scheduled substantial completion April 30, 2005
- Move-in date scheduled for July 7, 2005
- Dedication ceremony scheduled for July 12, 2005
Project Info- NEC was designed by CMSS Architects (Washington DC area) and HOK Architects/Engineers.
- General contractor is American construction company J.A. Jones International, LLC (a Fluor company) in partnership with Sibagec, a local company.
- Local labor used for construction, averaging 700 local employees per day.
Project Size- Site 8.57 acres
- Total building area 21,845 gsm

- Date of contract award January 2, 2002
- Total design and construction contract amount (with modifications) US $61,359,417
- Additional budget for land acquisition, construction management, security management, furniture and furnishings, telephones, computer systems, and communications systems brings total budget to: US $90,020,000
Materials - 10,000 square meters of stone are used for the project, 8,000 of which are on the Chancery. The stone was sourced from Brazil and Spain
- Cobblestone walkways were fabricated on site with hand cut stones from Ghana, which arrive overland via truck.
- Concrete was manufactured onsite daily during peak construction periods
