Foreign Service Exam - to be offered in Abidjan on Tuesday, October 6, 2009

“United States Foreign Service Officers serve in over 165 countries throughout the world, carrying out foreign policy and helping to maintain diplomatic relations. Their work involves administrative management, consular services, political and economic reporting and analysis, and public diplomacy.

If you are interested in a career as a diplomat, the first step is the Foreign Service Exam - which will next be offered in Abidjan on Tuesday, October 6.  The exam is held in cities throughout the United States, as well as at American Consulates and Embassies abroad.

Eligibility requirements include:

• Between 20 and 59 years old on the date of examination. Appointment to the Foreign Service must take place before the candidate's 60th birthday

• A citizen of the United States

• Available for worldwide assignment, including Washington, D.C.

Online registration and completion of the computer-based test is the first step in the Foreign Service Officer selection process.  Anyone interested needs to be a US citizen.  Registration for the October 6th test will begin in mid-late August; seats are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis until the limit is reached.  Candidates must register for the test no later than September 24, 2009.  Registration is being conducted via internet.  For more information, including instructions on how to register, please see the following website:  http://www.careers.state.gov/officer/employment.html
