PEPFAR

Direct PEPFAR funding enables the Alliance CI – formerly the International HIV/AIDS Alliance – to provide sub-grants and technical assistance to community-based organizations. U.S. Ambassador Aubrey Hooks (second from left, seated), who oversees all PEPFAR activities in Cote d’Ivoire, participated in this launching ceremony in 2006.
Funding Opportunities

PEPFAR provides direct funding for HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment, strategic information, and policy projects by established, experienced Ivorian and international organizations responding to competitive U.S. government annual program statements (APS) and requests for applications (RFA) and through USAID central field support mechanisms. PEPFAR does not review applications or provide direct funding in response to outside requests or unsolicited proposals.

However, organizations with limited or no experience working with the U.S. government may be eligible for sub-grants for HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment projects from PEPFAR implementing partners, including:

  • Alliance CI (previously known as the International HIV/AIDS Alliance), for community-based projects; call 22 52 85 70.
  • CARE International, in northern and western Cote d’Ivoire; call 22 41 97 25.
  • ANADER, for projects in rural areas; call 20 21 07 28.

The U.S. government’s New Partners Initiative (NPI) is currently in its second round of awarding competitive grants for HIV/AIDS projects by organizations with less than $5 million in previous U.S. government funding. The deadline for Round 2 submissions has passed.

Concept papers for Round 3 are due March 15, 2007 to March 30, 2007. For details, please check http://www.pepfarnpi.org

In addition, small grants may be available through the U.S. Embassy. Check the embassy’s Web site.
