An Immigrant Visa is required for a person who wishes to immigrate to the United States to live there permanently. Immigrant Visas are normally based on a petition submitted by a family member who is already legally resident in the U.S. The Consular Section of the Embassy processes family and work based Immigrant Visas, Diversity Visas and visas for family members of persons who have been granted status as Refugees or Asylees.
