The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan provides services to nearly 900 American Citizens living in Cote d'Ivoire, as well as to several hundred tourists and business visitors each year.  Services include routine functions as well as emergency assistance.  The Embassy Duty Officer assists American Citizens outside of normal business hours.  The Duty Officer can provide information on medical facilities, on obtaining emergency funds from home, on dealing with and replacing lost/stolen items, on reporting crimes, etc.  Please be aware that most services, such as applying for a  passport to replace one which has been lost or stolen, can only be performed during normal working hours.  Routine services to Americans such as passport renewals, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, notarials and registration of Americans in Côte d'Ivoire are available at the Embassy during business hours.

“Please be advised that the Consular Section has new hours for public phone inquiries.  Phone inquiries will only be received from Monday – Thursday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Friday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  For your convenience, our new automated response telephone answering system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with answers to routine inquiries.  The Consular Section can be reached at 22-49-45-94.”

New Visa Requirement for United States Citizens traveling to Côte d’Ivoire begins February 15, 2009

The Government of Côte d’Ivoire has informed the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan that a new visa policy will go into effect February 15, 2009 for citizens of the United States. U.S. citizens will need a valid Ivoirian visa prior to arrival since the Government of Côte d’Ivoire has informed the embassy that they will not issue visas at the airport.  Citizens of the U.S. traveling to Côte d’Ivoire on or after February 15 should immediately check with the nearest Ivoirian Embassy or Consulate for details regarding the visa procedures and fees.
