Background

Internews Network’s overall objective is to create a more supportive social environment for preventing and mitigating the impacts of HIV/AIDS, through professional training and mentoring of broadcast journalists in Cote d’Ivoire.  The Internews’ Local Voices/Cote d’Ivoire aims to increase the frequency, and improving the quality of locally produced print and radio reporting and programming on HIV/AIDS issues.  Local Voices does not produce its own programs, but builds the capacity of local journalists to report on the epidemic from a local (Ivoirian community) perspective.  To achieve this objective, Internews will train and mentor individual radio journalists, talk show hosts, and deejays to report HIV/AIDS stories accurately and effectively.
