Media and schools archivists trained in capacity building
Archivists from various media outlets in Côte d’Ivoire attended recently a three-day training session organized by the Embassy of the United States in Côte d’Ivoire. Initiated by the Information Resources Center, the program brought together 13 Ivoirian librarians who worked from May 23 to May 26 2006 on the theme: “Documentary fix photos editing”.
The seminar was an opportunity for participants to reflect on other topics such as: Design and execution of a photo library, text editing, and photojournalism or the importance of image in a newspaper. The workshop formed part of a series of a capacity building training for librarians both from media and secondary and senior secondary schools in Côte d’Ivoire. Other topic discussed during the session includes: information management. At the end of the session, participants were able to design an electronic photo library.
The school librarians’ session on “efficient management of an information resources center” was much devoted to topics including data analysis and books upkeep. The session, which came on 25 April through 28 April brought together about thirty archivists from Abidjan, Adzopé, Grand-Lahou, Soubré, Anyama, and Bondoukou.
The aim was to reinforce the capacity of the schools librarians and also in every Primary Education Service as well as the Pedagogic Training Center (CAFOP). At the conclusion of the session, participants designed a coherent archive management and communication plan to be used by experts in the Ivoirian education sector. They also formulated recommendations suggesting contributions and recruitment of archivists to manage information resources centers.
