The Information Resource Center Reopening Ceremony
On September 8, 2009, after a four week closure for annual inventory, the Information Resource Center of the U.S. Embassy organized a reopening ceremony, to launch FY 2010 operations. The event attracted more than 170 attendees including high level officials, representatives from the Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of National Education, religious and NGO leaders, heads of institutions, university teachers, students, kids, and the media.
Newly arrived DPAO AnnaMaria Adamo was introduced as Acting PAO and welcomed the participants. Ambassador Wanda Nesbitt delivered the opening remarks, focusing the United States’ dedication to strengthening mutual understanding between the US and the host country. She highlighted the fact that PAS and IRC programs are designed to support mission goals by offering a platform for discussion of key issues of importance to society. The IRC staff introduced new services, programs and products, such as Facebook and LibraryThing, designed to better address users’ needs. The Student Advisor explained the services offered and its mission to promote education in the United States and assist students applying for admission to U.S. schools and universities.
The participants applauded the event and saluted the US mission’s efforts to maintain and empower positive relationships between our two nations. They especially appreciated the IRC’s initiative in identifying new services and programs such as the ‘Young Readers’ initiative. The reopening ceremony was widely covered by national television and news papers.
