Miss Cote d’Ivoire Departs With American Embassy’s AIDS Road Show to the North

When the American Embassy’s AIDS Road Show set out again this morning two things were different: the destination and the composition of the team.  The destination was the North, where for the first time the caravan which has traversed the South of the country would now bring its message of abstinence, fidelity, and protection against AIDS to areas presently under the control of the New Forces.  The second difference was the presence of Miss Cote d’Ivoire, Alima Diomande, who is helping to open a discussion about AIDS amongst the youth of the country.  (more)

United States Will Spend 85 Billion CFA by 2007 to Fight AIDS in Côte d’Ivoire

Through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, the United States plans to spend over 85 billion CFA (USD $170 million) to fight AIDS in Côte d’Ivoire by the end of 2007, announced Ambassador Aubrey Hooks during a press conference at the American Embassy.  Through 2006, the United States will have injected 55 billion CFA into Côte d’Ivoire to reinforce the capacity of the Ivoirian health sector and local communities throughout the country to respond to this epidemic ... Ambassador and First Lady Open AIDS Center

Ambassador Aubrey Hooks and Ivoirian First Lady Simone Gbagbo, opened a counseling and testing center that promotes sustainability through involvement and contributions by local stakeholders. The project will provide counseling and testing for 1,200 people per year and strengthen a sustainable local response to the  HIV/AIDS epidemic through organizational capacity-building. (more)

US Commits $42 million to Fight HIV/AIDS in Côte d’Ivoire for 2005

The United States government announced today that under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Cote d’Ivoire will receive $42 million this year to help win the battle against HIV/AIDS.  This unprecedented sum is part of a five year, fifteen billion dollar commitment by the United States to combating HIV/AIDS around the world, with targeted efforts in fifteen of the worst affected countries, including Cote d’Ivoire.
