American Ambassador to Talk About Progress Achieved Towards Peace During Mission to the North

Ambassador Aubrey Hooks will tomorrow address a press conference at the American Embassy in Abidjan at 9:30AM, to discuss the findings of his delegation’s eight day mission to the New Forces-held areas of the West and North of Cote d’Ivoire.  The Ambassador returned late last week from the longest mission any high-level diplomat has made to the region.  During his trip he met with leaders of the New Forces, along with religious, traditional, and humanitarian organization.

“We gained incredible insights into the state of peace process and the humanitarian situation in the North and West,” said U.S. Embassy Spokesman Brett Bruen, who accompanied the Ambassador on the trip.  “The key to advancing the final elements of the peace process is engagement all sectors of Ivoirian society in all areas of the country.  This is the new American policy, as we continue to provide strong support for peace and reconciliation across Cote d’Ivoire.”

In an example of the United States continued engagement in all areas of Cote d’Ivoire, American Cultural Center Director David Andresen left Sunday for Yamoussoukro and Bouake.  Journalists should confirm their presence at the press conference by calling Folli Teko, Information Specialist at 22 49 45 10.  Photos from the trip will be made available tomorrow on the Embassy’s web site: http://abidjan.usembassy.gov.
