ABOUT THE EMBASSY

Public Affairs Section
Information Section
The Information Section of the United States Embassy in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire is charged with providing comprehensive, relevant, and timely information on American foreign policy and global events to Ivoirians.  This effort to engage and inform is achieved through myriad outreach initiatives that span the spectrum from traditional handshake diplomacy to electronic information distribution.  Yet, each endeavor remains grounded in the strong belief that information is the lifeblood of democratic societies and good relations.  Therefore, the more we know about each other the stronger our democracies and friendship will become.
The services that are provided by the Section continue to adapt to technology and times.  Whereas even five years ago most of the products produced by the Section were printed materials, this has started to change as Ivoirian society is using more and more electronic technology.  These are some of the most used services of the Section:
  • The daily Washinton File service provides news reports from the United States and the Embassy via email
  • The Daily Press Review summarizes Ivoirian news coverage in English
  • The USA Revue is a bi-monthly French language magazine on Embassy activies in Cote d'Ivoire and is available in hard copy and electronic versions
  • Press releases, media advisories, and other media information are written and distributed by the Section
  • Press conferences are organized on important subjects with Embassy officials and visiting dignitaries
  • Digital Video Conferences are frequently organized with journalists on current events
  • The Information Section is the primary point of contact for all media enquires regarding the Embassy and American/Ivoirian policies
  • Visits by Ivoirian journalists to the United States are organized throughout the year
  • The web site is managed by the Information Section
  • Interviews are regularly organized between Embassy officials and members of the media
