AIDS Road Show in Grand Bassam
On December 13, the American Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire organized a full day program to raise awareness on the HIV/AIDS. The program, which was co-hosted by REPMASCI – the association of performing artists against AIDS –, included a book discussion on “SIDA: Ce Que les Jeunes Doivent Savoir” that brought together both young people and leaders from NGOs working against AIDS.
The afternoon session included a series of short videos on AIDS. The films, which are made in French by Africans for Africans, emphasize the situations and dangers young people encounter. This was followed by an animated debate session during which prizes were distributed to participants who gave correct answers to AIDS trivia questions. The program offered young people to learn a great deal about HIV/AIDS – what it is, how it is transmitted, and how it can be prevented.
The program closed with remarks from the Ambassador, Miss Cote d’Ivoire, and the Mayor of Grand-Bassam Jean Michel Moulod who stressed the importance of the fight against AIDS.
