Thanksgiving Program at Cocody University
The Director of the American Cultural Center, Ms Sharon White spoke December 5, 2007 about Thanksgiving celebrations in the U.S. and American Corner operations at the Cocody University English Department. The conference, which was organized by the VOA Listeners Club brought together students and teachers.
Exploring the origin of Thanksgiving celebrations, Ms White described symbols such as Pumpkin, Turkey, Corn, and Cranberry sauce, and their importance in these festivities. PAO sang a nice Thanksgiving song which delighted the audience. She also commented on the Turkey that President of the U.S. pardons on Thanksgiving Day.
The Director of the American Cultural Center used the opportunity to market American Corners. She spoke about activities and information that are available at the corners, especially the one in Abidjan. She encouraged students and teachers to use facilities at the American Corners to improve their English speaking skills.
