“We’re here to strengthen the relationship between Americans and Ivoirians,” Ambassador Aubrey Hooks told a high-powered delegation of the distinguished leaders of Siégouékou who visited the Embassy on February 22, 2007. He ensured the visitors of the continuation of good relations between their village and the US Embassy.
Responding to a question on the decision by the US government to build its biggest embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, Ambassador Hooks said: “Abidjan is the hub of the sub-region and the American Embassy in Abidjan serves as a regional diplomatic mission.”
More 40 people from Siégouékou were welcomed into the Embassy this morning to pay a courtesy call on Ambassador Hooks and to reciprocate his visit to Siégouékou in March of last year. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Liepo Aimé, President of Siégouékou’s Development Cooperative, thanked Ambassador Hooks for offering them this unique opportunity to discover the Embassy.
The delegation was then taken through presentations on the embassy's activities, the Information Resource Center, study in the United States and the Ambassador’s Self-Help Fund. The delegation, which includes Mr. Irigalé Hailé, a traditional leader in the Siégouékou’s community, watched a PowerPoint presentation on the embassy's website. They also toured the art exhibit in the embassy’s atrium.
