Ivorian Journalists Discuss “Women in the Media” with VOA Show Host
About 40 female journalists attended October 6 a videoconference with Linord Rachel Moudou, an Ivorian journalist with the VOA. They discussed and compared the challenges facing women in the media -- in both the U.S. and Côte d’Ivoire. The discussion also offered participants the opportunity to share some terrific ideas and suggestions concerning the best ways to encourage young women to enter the field, what special training might be needed, and how to establish better professional relationships and achieve equal representation of both women and men in the media sphere.
The DVC conference brought to the forefront the need for women journalists to work together and support each others’ efforts. Participants were encouraged to speak out about their media experiences – both good and bad – and not be shy in describing publicly the professional challenges they face on a daily basis. Press leaders and media veterans were also urged to serve as role models and mentors for a new generation of women reporters.
